Monach Updates

First, here's a recently hatched Swallowtail butterfly.

This is the Monarch habitat. There's currently 3 good sized larvae in the milkweed, and one smaller guy in the little enclosed container. He might get eaten by the bigger ones if I let him roam free.

The egg hatched early this morning! I found the egg this past Friday, and checked on it last night and found the top of the egg was black- a good sign its about to hatch. Sure enough, there's a tiny little caterpillar in there, munching on its egg this morning. He's way too small to get a pic of. He'll be living in the petri dish for about a week.

Bob's Pig Roast

Yesterday we drove about an hour up into the mountains for Bryan's co-worker's BBQ/pig roast.
There was tons of fun stuff to do!

They stuffed and started cooking the pig Friday night, and 1/2 of the day Saturday

Our friends, the Vinisky's were there, too. Riley was very interested in the pig

Abbey was there too, but didn't want her picture taken because she got stung by a bee, so she hid behind Scott ;)

Rylan was excited to be allowed "POP!"

Brayden too! Rebel.

Bryan taught the kids the rules of Horseshoes

This is Bob's cottage

Safe adult supervision of kids with heavy throwing objects (horseshoes) beer in hand. ;)
Bob's friend has a private lake down the road, and urged us to go fishing!
How many men does it take to untangle fishing poles?

You can see some fish in the water

Scott's big catch

Riley's highlight of the fishing trip was playing with the minnows

We plan to come back and camp soon, and try out the canoes

Year round permanent camp site! The owner was VERY nice and said we can come use it any time we'd like! We will SURELY take him up on the offer!

Rylan loves dragonflies and asked me to get a picture

Bray's big catch

When we got back to the cottage, we found a "tarzan swing" in the woods! Its a very long cable line with hose for grips. There is a wooden platform to swing off of, but we didn't feel it was safe for the kids. Well, truthfully, we knew the kids are strong enough to handle it (and the kids thought so too!), but we wouldn't be able to live with the guilt if something were to happen.

here's the cable line

I HAD to get this pic- can you SEE his second thoughts?
He went for it!

Brayden: Get Ready,
Get Set,

Go!
